Celebrating the 2024 Olympics in the #SportsCapital: District Announces Extended Venue Hours During Upcoming Special Events

Thursday, July 18, 2024

(Washington, DC) – Today, with the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics less than two weeks away, the District’s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) is reminding the community that eligible establishments and venues will be able to operate 24 hours and have extended hours for entertainment and alcohol sales during designated periods that will cover the 2024 Summer Olympics (July 26-August 11), the 2024 Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8), as well as Dine All Night (September 19-29). and Art All Night (September 27-28).

“We’re the Sports Capital and we know that sports bring people together and that many people enjoy cheering on their favorite athletes and teams alongside other fans,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “The extended hours program is one way we can support local businesses and have fun celebrating the Olympics in our Nation’s Capital.”

Through emergency legislation signed earlier this week, eligible on-premises licensed retailers are able to register with ABCA to serve alcohol until 4 am and operate 24 hours during these designated periods. The legislation also permits venues registered as an Art All Night and Dine All Night participant through the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) to offer entertainment until 11 pm outdoors and until 2 am indoors during those dates that they are registered with DSLBD to participate.

“ABCA is pleased to support and facilitate the Extended Hours program to allow licensed businesses to sell, serve, and permit the consumption of alcohol during special events,” said ABCA Director Fred Moosally. “The agency will publish a roster of approved establishments on our website to assist the public with participation in these events.”

Venues can submit registration forms and fees using the links below:

  1. Summer Olympics / Paralympics Registration Form | Deadline: Thursday, July 25
  2. Art All Night / Dine All Night Registration Form | Deadline: Thursday, September 26

“Art All Night showcases the vibrant creativity and diverse talent that make DC a unique regional, national, and international cultural hub,” said DSLBD Director Rosemary Suggs-Evans. “Allowing our local businesses to extend their hours during this District two-night festival will enhance the overall experience for event attendees and provide our local businesses with expanded opportunities to contribute to the city's dynamic arts scene.”

Any licensee that does not want to participate in the extension of hours is not required to do so. Licensees that have questions regarding the registration process can contact ABRA’s Licensing Division by emailing [email protected] or calling (202) 442-4423. Additional details, including the emergency legislation authorizing the extension of hours, and applications are available on ABCA's website.
