DC-licensed advanced practice registered nurses (APRN), dentists, naturopathic physicians (ND), physicians, and physician assistants in good standing can issue medical cannabis recommendations to their patients. There is no fee for healthcare practitioners to register or process recommendations.

Registration Process

All healthcare practitioner registration and requests for missing information are processed through ABCA’s Customer Portal. A confirmation email including recommendation issuance instructions is sent following a successful staff review.

Recommendation Issuance

Practitioners submit and complete all patient recommendations digitally through the secure ABCA portal. Once processed, the portal instantly generates a unique eight-digit recommendation number. Practitioners must provide this number directly to their patient. The patient will enter this exact code into their own patient registration form to securely link the recommendation to their account. Successfully issued recommendations are valid for two years from the issuance date.

• Personal information including social security number
• DC controlled substance license number (naturopathic physicians are exempt)
• DC medical license number
