Overview
A summer garden or sidewalk café endorsement allows a restaurant, tavern, multipurpose facility, hotel, nightclub, and manufacturer to sell, serve, and allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages in an outdoor space. A summer garden endorsement would be issued if it is for outdoor private space. A sidewalk café endorsement would be issued if it is for outdoor public space.
Eligibility
In order for a manufacturer to be eligible to obtain a summer garden or sidewalk café endorsement, the manufacturer must hold an on-site sales and consumption permit.
To Apply
If licensee is a sole proprietor or partnership, print individual’s name (Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial). If licensee is a business entity, list the entity’s name.
- Print trade name.
- Print premise address.
- Print premise telephone number.
- E-mail address.
- List the Occupancy and number of seats for the establishment, summer garden, and/or sidewalk cafe.
- List the hours of operation and the hours the sale of alcoholic beverages.
- If applicant is a sole proprietor, the individual must sign, if Partnership, each partner must sign, if Corporation, President or Vice President must sign, if LLC, managing member must sign the certification, which states: “Certification: I hereby certify under penalty of perjury that the information in this application is true and correct. I also certify that the above licensee is the true and actual owner of the business.” Print your name and have your signature notarized.

Valid Period and Fees
The application must be accompanied by the proper fee. The annual fee for a summer garden/sidewalk café is $75.00. There is an additional inspection fee of $50.00, if the Summer Garden/Sidewalk Café is applied for after the original license is granted. All payments can be made in the form of a cashier’s check, certified check, business check, attorney’s check, personal check, or money order, payable to the DC Treasurer, or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only).
