ABRA Named Innovative Alcohol Law Enforcement Program on the Year

Thursday, November 19, 2020

Yesterday, the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association (NLLEA) named the District of Columbia’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) the recipient of the 2020 Innovative Alcohol Law Enforcement Program of the Year Award during its annual business meeting.

ABRA was awarded the national recognition for its multi-pronged approach to enforcing local alcohol laws, Mayor’s Orders, and emergency rulemakings during the ongoing public health emergency, while launching bold new opportunities such as alcohol carry-out and delivery, new and expanded outdoor dining, and pop-ups to help economically hard-hit businesses safely reopen and meet the wide-ranging needs and comfort levels of patrons.

“Effective enforcement requires consistent and high-quality education, staying nimble, being creative, and prioritizing human health and safety,” said ABRA Director Fred Moosally. “I am extremely proud of the entire ABRA team for embracing and practicing these central tenants throughout the pandemic and for NLLEA recognizing our efforts. I also applaud the thousands of businesses that continue to prioritize the well-being of their customers and staff and adhere to reopening guidelines.”

ABRA is a four-time NLLEA honoree having previously received the non-profit association’s Agency of the Year award in 2018 and its Innovative Alcohol Law Enforcement Program of the Year award in 2009 and 2017.
