Overview
Non-DC residents may purchase medical cannabis from any licensed Retailer in DC by registering for a temporary patient registration or using their valid patient registration from a U.S. state or territory that has been extended reciprocity.
All temporary patient registrations are digital and may be used immediately upon receipt.
Eligibility
Domestic and international visitors that are at least 21 years of age are eligible.
Reciprocity is extended to patients with a valid patient registration issued by a U.S. state or territory’s program. View eligible jurisdictions.

* As of April 11, 2024, Virginia patients must provide written certification form completed by an authorized healthcare practitioner and an unexpired government-issued ID from any jurisdiction such as a driver's license or U.S. passport in order to purchase medical cannabis and medical cannabis products from DC licensed Retailers.
To Apply
For a temporary patient registration, non-DC residents must submit a brief online registration form self-certifying that they will only use purchased medical cannabis for valid medical purposes.
Upon submission, registrants will be emailed a payment link. Payment must be successfully processed before a digital patient registration will be issued by email.
Registration, including payment processing and registration issuance, can be completed within 10 minutes.
For reciprocity, non-DC residents must register through the medical cannabis program where they claim residency.
Valid Period and Fees
Registrants may select from five (5) valid periods. They are:
- Three (3)-days
- 30-days
- 90-days
- 180-days
- 365-days

Reciprocity is extended to patients through the valid period included on registrations. ABCA does not charge a reciprocity fee.
