Caregivers are adults (18+) authorized to purchase, possess, and administer medical cannabis on behalf of one or more registered adult or minor DC resident patients. Caregiver registrations are valid for 2 years, and there is no fee for D.C. residents to register. Registration Process and Options All registrations are processed through ABCA’s Customer Portal. Upon application submission, caregivers and newly registered patients will receive a temporary digital registration valid for 90 days that can be used right away. Requests for missing information are made through the portal. A digital registration valid for two years is issued following a successful staff review. During the registration process, prospective caregivers can choose one of two paths:

Required Information and Documentation
Gather the following items before starting your online application.
For the Caregiver
- Government-issued photo ID
For the Patient
- Personal details including date of birth and home address
- Registration number if an existing patient
- Recommendation number if 20 years or younger
- DC DMV Real ID OR a government-issued photo ID and proof of DC residency
- Utility bills (electric, water, gas, internet)
- Bank or credit card statements
- Mortgage statements
- Rental agreements/leases
- Government-issued mail, such as tax assessments
- Income Verification (Optional): Only required if applying for discounted medical cannabis product eligibility. Patient Medicaid or DC Alliance card or two (2) separate proofs showing their total household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
- Recent paystubs: Issued within the last 30 days.
- Tax returns: Most recent federal or District of Columbia tax filing.
- Job offer letter: Issued within one year
- Benefit statements: Official statements for Social Security, worker’s compensation, child support, or alimony.
- Asset statements: Current documentation for stocks, bonds, annuities, private pensions, or retirement accounts.
- Any alternative document deemed acceptable by ABCA or the ABC Board to prove current income.
