Gateway-Langdon Park Moratorium Zone

Background

The Gateway-Langdon Park Moratorium Zone is now known as the Gateway/Langdon Park Moratorium Zone (GLPMZ) and is in effect until 2029.

The morotarium:

  • Caps the number of permitted retailer class CN/DN (Nightclubs) licenses to three (3).
  • Prohibits on-premises retailer’s licenses, class CN/DN from expanding licensed premises to adjacent properties or lots, except for increasing onsite parking.
  • Lift the cap on Retailer Class CX/DX (Multipurpose Facilities).
  • Remove the prohibition of entertainment endorsements for Retailer Class CR/DR (Restaurants) and CT/DT (Taverns).

Exemptions


The GLPMZ exempts hotel licenses (CH/DH).

 

Status

The Gateway-Langdon Park Moratorium Zone was adopted for another three years by the ABC Board on January 16, 2026, and was finalized in the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR) on March 13, 2026. 

Boundaries

The Gateway-Langdon Park Moratorium Zone extends approximately six hundred feet (600 ft.) in all directions from 2135 Queens Chapel Road, N.E. (Echostage) and includes portions of Adams Place, N.E., Queens Chapel Road, N.E., Bladensburg Road, N.E., 24th Place, N.E. and 25th Place, N.E.
